We’re on a Mission to

Get More Local Foods

into Maine Schools

From wild blueberries to fresh haddock, locally milled cornmeal to foraged fiddleheads, Maine knows how to do local food.

There are networks of farmers, fishers, processors, distributors, chefs, community organizers, and more who are working to share these crops and products with people across the state — and that includes bringing local foods into school kitchens.

We believe that school meals can celebrate and uplift the local food system, and we want to make sure that students in Maine have access to all that this state has to offer.

Through the USDA Healthy Meals Incentive Initiative’s School Food System Transformation Challenge, we support new and existing farm-to-school and sea-to-school initiatives that bring more local ingredients into school cafeterias.
